Here in the arms of my Father
Only grace can be found
So I lay my fears down
Nothing is the same anymore
You’ve changed me from the inside out
Now my heart is beating and it’s singing won’t You…Hold me
Pull me just a little bit closer
I don’t wanna lose this moment
Your love has covered me
And now I can’t get over You
I can’t get over You
I can’t get over You
I just can’t get over You
I was listening to this song by Anthem Lights today in the middle of a busy Max station and instantly became overwhelmed by God’s presence. Even though there were tons of people bustling around to their designations, I was able to cancel them all out and completely focus on God. I began to worship Christ, lifting my hands in my mind in complete surrender. I was one with God in a worshipful atmosphere. Well, for at least a little bit. Before I knew it, I started thinking of something I had seen on YouTube, and my mind instantly went south. And of course, I was still listening to this God filled song, telling God they can’t get over Him and they want more and more.
I felt awful!
In 2 Corinthians 10:5, Paul encourages us to take every thought captive to obey Christ. As guilt began to replace the feeling of awe in my heart, I was reminded of this passage. With God, there are always second chances. Even if we falter, God is always there and willing to help us out. It’s His desire for us is to have an intimate communion with Him, one that is whole and completely clean of any sins in our lives.
What are we letting into our heart, soul, and mind? What are we watching on tv? What about the movies we see? Yeah, they may seem innocent (at least by the worldly standards), but are they really? What about the videos we watch on YouTube… and the magazines in the check out aisle? Even if it is just a glance or a one time watch, they stay with us forever… and then when we least expect it, those images haunt us.
I want to encourage you to think of all the things you’ve let into your lives that aren’t from Christ… and give them all to Him. Ask Him to forgive you and to help you hold those thoughts and images captive so you will have a clear and clean conscience so the next time you spend time with God, you won’t be interrupted like I was.
God is your biggest cheerleader and He has the best in store for you! He’s always got your best interest in mind.
How else do you think we can respond/do when our past interrupts our present moments with Christ? Let me know what you think!
I hope you have a blessed week!
Keep your eyes on Christ, heart seeking Him, and soul growing in Him.
